Deafworks is a neutral and independent consultancy still leading after 20 years. Both partners Laraine Callow and Nicholas Callow have been around professionally for (wait for it) 35 years (each).
Deafworks now focuses on advising, supporting, mentoring, managing, coaching organisations who want to provide a better service to deaf people and to deaf individuals who want to increase their professionalism in the workplace.
- Project work – from strategy to implementation (we support you from beginning to end)
“We became stuck with a filming project and were panicking about our deadlines. Deafworks stepped in and helped us to review our strategy and they worked closely with staff and freelancers to get the job done. Phew!” (Director of a charity)
- Research – we can do what you want (we help you to find answers to your questions)
Deafworks employed a deaf researcher on our behalf and trained and supported her in recruiting, selecting and interviewing clients and collating a fantastic report complete with recommendations.” (Team Leader, Social Services, SW England)
- Employment – resolving issues at work (we work with colleagues and human resources)
“Laraine helped us with a deaf manager who was experiencing problems with staff. Within three months, the manager developed more productive relationships and now heads an exciting and thriving department.” (Head of HR of a creative company, London)
- Access to the arts – developing relevant services (we guide your deaf audience growth)
“We are one of the largest art galleries in the U.K. and were rather embarrassed about our poor engagement with deaf visitors. Laraine helped us to devise a five year plan (we’d allowed six months) and not only did we increase our deaf customer base, we now have a freelance team of sparkling BSL presenters.”
- One to One – advice for individuals (we want you to grow)
“I had become tangled up in my college work and was on the verge of leaving. Nick helped me to co-ordinate a contract with the university Learning Team and Laraine supported me in managing my interpreters and workload better. I passed with first class honours.” (deaf executive)
- Legal work – we are accredited expert witnesses (we offer our considerable experience in court)
“Deafworks really pulled out the stops in helping us to wrap up a tricky case that had been going on for several years. Even the judge commented on their expertise and professionalism.” (firm of solicitors)
