Mediation

What is mediation?

Mediation is an informal way of resolving disagreements or disputes in the workplace. It can avoid the need to use more formal or legal procedures. It involves a neutral third person working with those in dispute to help them reach an agreement. It is a confidential and voluntary process.

Who

You are a deaf person in employment and looking to resolve a negative situation which has arisen. You are keen to work with your line manager, head of department or your employer. You wish to avoid the situation deteriorating and want to explore alternatives before facing a disciplinary or going to an employment tribunal. You may or may not have the support of your union.

You may, alternatively, be a line manager or employer looking to resolve serious issues with a deaf staff member before they escalate further and you are looking for an experienced mediator to join you in the workplace to work with the employer and employee in a neutral and unbiased environment.

Aim

As a member of staff or manager, you are encountering challenges and need support in meeting these challenges successfully and quickly.

What you get

All three partners of Deafworks have supported situations which have required mediation, all of which have had successful outcomes. At the current time, the Director Laraine Callow is a trained mediator and has worked in employment, education and personal situations which required skilful mediation.

How it works

You can email Laraine Callow on LC@deafworks.co.uk, or you can pick up the phone and speak to Nicholas Callow on 020 7689 0033 to discuss in absolute confidence, your current situation. We can then look to see which partner would suit you best and whom you feel most comfortable with and see how we can set things in motion for you quickly and effectively. If you live in Ireland then our Associate Damian Barry would work with you.
