Want something different? ‘Train to Gain’: a popular government initiative
D/deaf senior managers (with strategic responsibilities) living or working in London can apply for government funding for coaching with the Deafworks Director.
Five easy steps:
- Ask for an initial face-to-face meeting with Laraine Callow, or opt for an email discussion if you prefer.
- We can discuss what you want from these coaching sessions.
- We can fill in the forms together and process them for you.
- You will be allocated a external broker who will check and approve your application. (You will need to attend this meeting.)
- Then we can get started! (There is no deadline for the end of the coaching.)
Are you eligible?
- Are you the CEO, Director or a chair?
- Do you work for a registered charity, company or Social Enterprise?
- Do you employ between staff?
- Do you live or work in London?
What is actually involved?
Laraine Callow (Director Deafworks) and you will discuss how best to meet your needs. This may be a mixture of mentoring, coaching, one-to-one training and support. Your business case must focus on how to lead your organisation or department and help it to be relevant to your clients or customers either by growing or streamlining your organisation.
Criteria
Please read below for the full criteria for the Train to Gain programme:
- “Between 2 and 249 PAYE employees;
- The beneficiary must be the MD, CEO, Owner or Chair where the organisation employs 2-49 staff;
- Each Employer is entitled to a grant worth up to £1000.00 which must be fully matched (£ for £) by the Employer;
- Organisations that accessed the grant in 2008-11 can access the grant again;
- Employers must be able to demonstrate High Growth potential i.e. 20% increase in turnover each year for the next three years;
- In general, training should improve the interaction between the business leader and the workforce. This means that some of the training supported previously e.g. marketing, sales, project management, financial management can no longer be supported.”
If you meet all these criteria, do get in touch with us today at general@deafworks.co.uk and let’s work on setting up this unique programme for you!
Oh no! I don’t meet any of these criteria! What now?
Deafworks offers “The Full Works” – http://www.deafworks.co.uk/our-services/deaf-professionals-training/the-full-works/
For a yearly subscription fee* you will receive:

A follow-up personal development email questionnaire, or an appraisal of your organisation.
One initial face-to-face mentoring session or video conference.
An ongoing individual career plan, or plan for your organisation.
Regular email correspondence and support throughout the year.
1 additional face-to-face mentoring session towards the end of our work together.
*The fee to your employer is £640 + VAT for 1 year’s support.
Would you prefer just a single One-to-One session?
Have a look at http://www.deafworks.co.uk/our-services/one-to-one/ for some ideas.
But I can’t afford anything!
Hmm, that makes it difficult. If you are working for an organisation then the next step would be to discuss this paper with your line manager.
If you are a D/deaf volunteer working for an unregistered charity or self help group then Deafworks always offers a free half hour discussion to look at, and advise on, your plans.
Why not email Laraine and tell her what your next step might be?
P.S.: Hang on, I’m hearing! What about me?
Yes, hearing people are also eligible to apply!
