Deaf User Groups

  • Setting up a Deaf User Group
“We need to set up a Deaf User Group whom we can consult once a year officially, but also be able to call upon them when we need advice.” (2 London boroughs)
We set out a plan on setting up a Deaf User Group based on the experiences of other groups for the Social Services Team to follow and implement.
  • Reaching out to Deaf Clients
“We have a very out of date database and are aware people have moved away, or even died. It is embarrassing contacting deaf clients. Please help!”
We sent out a deaf researcher on a bicycle (yes!) in this small London borough. We contacted every one of the 204 deaf and hard of hearing clients (all in confidence, of course) and were able to update the database and to also pass clients on who needed advice and referred new (identified by us) clients to the Deaf Team.
  • Disseminating and circulating information
Advertising and Researching the Deaf Market: We were asked to put together a workshop resulting in an action list of where deaf people could be contacted in a particular geographical area, with names of “influencers”, addresses, contact details, and which people would be most useful in identified areas of work.
  • Working with a Deaf Image Group
“We have tried before, and failed, to set up a Deaf Image Group- each time it falls apart and we simply cannot get deaf people round the table. Please help”.
    (London and Midlands)
We contacted the main players in the area and convened an initial meeting to find out what the problems were. We then drew up a plan suggesting a way forward accommodating the different requirements with a year calendar of events. We kick-started the process by hosting and chairing the first two meetings before it carried on, under its own steam. This worked well
  • Writing a strategic plan
We can help you put together a Strategic Plan detailing action for staff and volunteers to follow – just give us a brief! We have written eight so far for different Councils and Charities. OR we limit ourselves to a short piece of text.

Call us to discuss how we can help you develop quickly and painlessly!
